The Fabulous Four: Boxing's Greatest 4-Way Rivalry (1991) |
The Fabulous Four chronicles the competition of four
great champions: Sugar Ray Leonard, Roberto Duran, Thomas Hearns,
and Marvin Hagler.
This video is
a must for any sports fan, depicting some of the greatest fights
of this decade-long struggle: Duran's "hands of stone"
pounding Leonard for the welterweight crown in Montreal, the
famous "Alley Fight" between Thomas "the Hit
Man" Hearns and Marvelous Marvin Hagler, and Leonard's
amazing comebacks from retirement to recapture titles from his
three opponents.
While many of these bouts require no introduction, the
narration expertly introduces each fight for the
uninitiated.
A drawback of this video is the exclusion of the
celebrated rematch between Leonard and Duran in which the latter
was pummeled into crying "No mas, no mas" after
enduring the Sugarman's viscious combinations.
However, there is still plenty of bone-crunching action. A
necessary addition to any sports fan's library, The Fabulous
Four details some of boxing's greatest rivalries.

The 80s were the greatest years in
boxing history! In that decade, four legendary boxers stepped
into the spot light and fought each other with all of their
strength, speed, and heart.
The Fabulous Four is a documentary
you must purchase! There is no talking in this tape. There is
only pure fight footage from those spectacular bouts. Most the
fights are only highlight clips or certain action packed
rounds, so don't expect to get the whole pay per view
broadcast.
The creators of this film seem to
have edited out all the slower rounds. In fact, the only
complete fights are the ones which didn't go the distance.
Thomas Hearns's brutal knock out of Roberto Duran is in full
footage and The three rounds of Mayhem when Marvelous Marvin
Hagler battled The Hitman is a complete fight with all the
original interviews.
I actually would have prefered to
see the complete fights but in a way this documentary did some
good. From start to end, this tape was 'edge of your seat'
entertaining. There wasn't one boring second since they cut
out all of those slow rounds with little action in them. With
it's editing, it perfectly describes the honor and pride which
once lived in boxing.
When Sugar Ray Leonard came out of
retirement to score his incredible come back victory by controversial
decision against Marvin Hagler, it showed that these men had
no fear. And when Sugar Ray fought the unstoppable Thomas
Hitman Hearns in 1981, I realized that the boxers back then
had something the boxers in present times lack....its called
GREATNESS!
Those great fighters back in the
1980s were not afraid to fight each other. In conclusion, once
you watch this tape, you will realize that the boxers of
yesterday would simply outclass the boxers today.
Sugar Ray would easily out box
Tito Trinidad, Marvin Hagler would beat Shane Mosely or De La
Hoya, Roberto Duran would ruff up Fernando Vargas, and Thomas
Hearns would brutally knock out Vernon Forrest.
If you want to see the greatest fighters of all time in the
same ring, then buy this tape now!
But, remember that this is a documentary and not an actual
fight tape. A viewer from California
